Making life simpler through online banking

Online shopping and banking: a growing trend

The consumer world has changed enormously in the last few decades. Now you can buy groceries, order takeaway or even arrange for a housekeeping team to come to your house in just two or three clicks. Who would have believed it, 20 years ago? Financial services are also evolving and undergoing a digital shift that allows users to carry out banking operations from the comfort of their living rooms.

Online shopping on the rise

There has been an unprecedented increase in the number of online purchases in recent years.

In 2018, up to 64% of adult Quebecers made at least one online purchase, up 6 percentage points from 20171, according to CEFRIO’s 2018 NETendances survey. This report also revealed that this increase was sharpest among people aged 45 to 54, compared to 2017.1

Why is this trend increasing? Because it’s easy, reliable, secure and it solves a lot of issues, no matter where you are. The same bell is ringing for financial services, which are also feeling the effects of technological change.

Also according to CEFRIO, most Quebecers now use the Internet to conduct their banking transactions, with an increase of 15 percentage points over three years, for an 80% total adoption rate among adult Quebecers in 2018. In fact, 71% of adult Quebecers “most often” use the Web to conduct their banking transactions.2 We have also noticed these changing habits in our customers, with reduced used of banking machines and less traffic in our branches, in step with increased growth in electronic transfers. It’s a change that proves the importance of the digital reality in your daily life.
